zFTPServer Suite

FTP is the most used way of storing and sharing files over the Internet. For instance, it's useful when you want to access files from your home computer while you are at work and the other way around. The problem is that most FTP servers are not free and some of them are really expensive, without offering such a great download and upload speed. It would be more useful to run your own FTP server and to configure it just the way you want it. In this way, you will be able to securely access your desired files and folders at a greater speed than using a public service.

For this matter, you could install the zFTPServer Suite application, a Windows program which turns your computer into an advanced FTP server. After installing and running the application, the user will be presented with a welcome screen, in which he will need to configure the IP address and port of the server. Normally, this should be left untouched, as the program can automatically detect the computer's IP address. Besides that, the user will need to enter the administrator username and password. By default, the password is blank, but the user can easily set one after logging in.

After entering the admin username, the actual interface of zFTPServer Suite will be displayed, together with a status window, in which the server's functionality will be shown in real time. At this point, the user will be able to configure different users and access types for the FTP server, and also set up the folder for each user, in which he will be able to copy and retrieve files and folders. What's more, by accessing the configuration option, the user will be able to completely customize the FTP server. Still, some options, for example the ones related to security, may be difficult to understand by inexperienced computer users.
